Beginners
The Beginners classes focus on seven key areas of development with an increase in content and sophistication as students progress from the year to year:
Language Arts
Introduction to phonics and reading readiness. Daily exposure to the great classical children’s stories and fun with wordplay (opposites, rhyming, synonyms, homonyms). Emphasis on proper pencil grip and ability to write all letters in both upper and lower cases as well as numbers 1 through 10.
Math and Science
Introduction to numbers and number concepts. Introduction to science through hands-on activities.
French
Pronunciation, memorization of numbers 1 to 10, days of the week, parts of the body, salutations, manners, animals, as well as audio recordings to help children practice and produce authentic pronunciation. Children learn and sing French songs and poems as well.
Bible Appreciation
Bible stories, key verses, and hymns are taught for memory.
Music and Rhythm
Preschool students develop a foundation of musical skills by comparing music through dichotomies (loud/soft, fast/slow) and by experiencing music through physical action and written notation. Students learn to match pitch with their voices and to keep a steady beat both with their bodies and with instruments.
Visual Arts and Motor Skill Development
We incorporate very basic drawing and pasting to help students evolve from gross motor to fine motor skill development. In addition, students enjoy “seeing” exercises both indoors and outdoors.
Social Development
Children are encouraged to express their ideas, to share with others, and to enjoy the interactions with other classmates.
