Beginners

Teacher and studentThe Beginners classes focus seven key areas of development with an increase in content and sophistication as students progress from the year to year:

Language Arts

Daily exposure to the great classical children’s stories, mastery of the alphabet, and fun with wordplay (opposites, rhyming, synonyms, homonyms).

Math and Science

Introduction to numbers 1 to 20 and nature discovery through exploration of Central Park’s flora and fauna.

French

Pronunciation, memorization of numbers 1 to 10, days of the week, parts of the body, salutations, manners, animals, as well as audio recordings to help children practice and produce authentic pronunciation.

Bible Appreciation

Bible stories, key verses and hymns are taught for memory.

Music and Rhythm

Conservatory teachers use songs and sonatas to encourage reproduction of rhythmic patterns and sound comparisons (loud/soft, fast/slow, staccato/legato). Students combine singing with simple choreography and counting.

Visual Arts and Motor Skill Development

We incorporate very basic drawing and pasting to help students evolve from gross motor to fine motor skill development. In addition, students enjoy “seeing” exercises both indoors and outdoors.

Social Development

Children are encouraged to express their ideas, to share with others, and to enjoy the interactions with other classmates.
