Grammar

Spelling and Vocabulary

Key text is Wordly Wise, Level 2.

Writing

In Writer's Workshop students write the Five-Paragraph Essay, a Memoir, and a Research Paper. They complete a Medieval Poetry Book and Historical Fiction, as well as revise and edit creative pieces.

Literature

Students strengthen their reading skills by reading and discussing classical literature, including poetry by Blake and Tennyson, plays by William Shakespeare, and classical texts such as The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Princess and the Goblin.

Math

Primary text is Singapore Math Primary Math U.S. Edition Level 4A and 4B.

Science

Key text is Purposeful Design, lab-based, hands-on, experiential learning covering the subjects of light, sound, hydrosphere, atmosphere, physical changes in matter, life cycles, variation, and classification.

History and Geography

Comprehensive study of history, geography, events, and key figures of the Middle Ages, Early Renaissance, and Reformation periods, including feudalism and the Crusades. Geography of Europe and key historical regions are covered, as well.

French

Primary text is Alex et Zoé et Compagnie by CLE International.

Bible

Students engage in a thorough New Testatment survey with an emphasis on the Gospels.

Music

Students learn more complex dotted rhythmic elements and explore the application of half notes in music. They work extensively on sight reading, sight singing, and notating music.

Visual Arts

Emphasis is placed on drawing people from front view using geometric shapes and correct proportion. Study of major artists and art history.

Physical Education

Specialized locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills. Continued study of rules and terminology of various sports.
