Kindergarten Curriculum
Kindergarten for children who are 5 by August 31. Five-day-a-week classes are held at the Grammar School from 8:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Language Arts
Sing, Spell, Read and Write, a phonics-based reading program.
Math
Singapore Math Earlybird U.S. Edition.
Science
Purposeful Design, Level 1. Lab-based, hands-on, experiential learning covering the subjects of force and motion, seasons, and the human body.
History and Geography
Introduction to key people and events in American history through national holiday study. Students are introduced to the geography of their neighborhoods and city; they memorize the names of oceans and continents.
French
Focus is on accent and pronunciation, increased vocabulary, writing and sight reading in French. Recordings of songs and phrases available for daily listening.
Bible
Daily Bible reading and discussion, including weekly Bible verse memorization.
Music
Kindergarten students develop a foundation of musical skills by comparing music through various dichotomies (loud/soft, fast/slow, etc.) and by experiencing music through physical action and written notation. They learn to match pitch with their voices and to keep a steady beat both with their bodies and with instruments.
Visual Arts
Students are taught the beginning elements of drawing.
Physical Education
Demonstration and development of locomotor skills and non-locomotor skills. Continued emphasis on good sportsmanship.
