Grammar

Spelling and Vocabulary
Text is Wordly Wise 3000.
Reading
Development of reading skills based on a selection of classical literature, including Mary Poppins, Aesop's Fables, and Pinocchio.
Writing
In Writer's Workshop, students write a Five-Paragraph Essay; a Short Story in the form of a Myth, Fable, or Legend; a Newspaper Article, a Book Report, a Biography, and Poetry. Students learn to revise and edit creative pieces, as well as learn to use figurative language.
Math
Primary text is Singapore Math Primary Math U.S. Edition Level 3A and 3B.
Science
Primary text is Purposeful Design, lab-based, hands-on, experiential learning covering the subjects of force, motion, matter, earth, and its ecosystems.
History and Geography
Interdisciplinary study of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, including the geography of the region (the Mediterranean Sea and the countries of southern Europe).
French
Text is Alex et Zoé et Compagnie by CLE International.
Bible
Students continue their Old Testament study, focusing on Judges through Kings. Weekly memorization of Bible verses is included.
Music
Students continue to build upon the elements presented in prior grades; they learn more complicated syncopated rhythmic elements and explore the extended pentatonic scale. In addition, they work extensively on sight reading, sight singing, and notating music.
Visual Arts
Introduction to shading and continued emphasis on perspective work, scale and depth, and use of complementary colors.
Physical Education
Continued understanding of basic skills of seasonal sports. Playing lead-up games to prepare for training in seasonal sports.
